Tamworth earned a point at The Lamb on Valentine’s Day after playing 80 minutes with 10 men, taking the lead early in the second half, then conceding a 90+2’ equaliser as Aldershot’s late pressure finally told.

Fresh from a dramatic midweek trip to Morecambe, Andy Peaks made two changes to his XI — Ryan Howley and Nathan Tshikuna Isichei came in, with Ben Milnes and Ben Acquaye dropping to the bench. Aldershot arrived in improved form under John Coleman, having lost only once in six and scoring freely in recent games.

First half

Tamworth started brightly, moving the ball well and looking to build territory through long throws and second balls. But the tone of the game changed dramatically on 10 minutes when Creaney was shown a straight red card after an incident reviewed with the assistant, leaving the hosts to manage the contest a man down for most of the afternoon.

Despite the setback, Tamworth stayed organised and still found moments to threaten. A recycled Tonks throw ended with a 20-yard effort comfortably gathered by Boyce-Clarke, while Grogan dragged a left-side cross wide at the other end.

Aldershot began to apply more consistent pressure as the half progressed. Patton came closest before the break, striking the crossbar with a powerful effort from distance. Tamworth were forced into an early reshuffle too, with Lynch replacing Kurtaran on 16 minutes.

Late in the half, chances arrived at both ends: Anderson missed when well placed, and Tamworth nearly stole a lead when a long throw slipped through the six-yard area for Lynch, whose angled finish flashed just past the near post.

HT: 0–0

Second half

The match swung in Tamworth’s favour early after the restart. Stefan Mols carried the ball forward over halfway and into the final third, then fed Lynch on the left. Boyce-Clarke initially pushed away the shot, but Lynch reacted quickest to turn in the rebound from close range for 1–0 (50’).

There was another key turning point moments later as numbers were levelled — Aldershot’s Anderson was shown a second yellow after a foul in the centre circle, reducing both sides to 10 men.

Tamworth looked to manage the game through shape and territory, again using Tonks’ throws as a direct outlet. Aldershot had spells in possession but struggled to find clear routes through a committed Tamworth back line, with blocks and headers repelling a series of late deliveries.

As the clock ran down, the visitors increased their tempo and pinned Tamworth deeper. With eight minutes added, the pressure finally produced an equaliser: following a close-range effort that was blocked/parried in the box, Warren latched onto the loose ball and guided a finish into the far corner from the left side of the area for 1–1 (90+2’).

Tamworth held on for the remaining minutes to secure a point that, given the early red card, felt hard-earned — though the hosts will regret conceding so late after doing so much work to protect the advantage.
